Why there are so few Prabir Jha's in HR?: Aaasaan Nahin Hai Prabir Ho Jana!
Sahil Nayar: Why there are so few Prabir Jha's in HR?Prabir: Not just HR, even Business Leadership don't have many Prabir Jha's.
So true...
In fact, you may ask, why we have so few Sahil Nayar's in HR or Business (if you may so wish?)
It's simply not easy to be a Prabir, for simple reason, you are not an St. Stephen's College and the Harvard of HR MBA, the XLRI grad. You are not an ex-Civil Servant and you are not at any time, the highest paid CHRO in India!
We all watched this star transit, after he was long posited at DRL. DRL to Tata Motors and then to Reliance and then to Cipla to finally end his stellar journey as an FTE.
He rightly recounted the virtues of a Prabir Jha (la leadership qualities, rare to find) Mind you, he used this word "Rare", when he explained why it is tough to be a Prabir Jha!
I remember Prabir from my MBA college days, where he did a few workshops for my class. Then he was in sabbatical and quickly he had GMR offer, where he joined but had to leave in 15 days for a much meaningful role at DRL. He hired many of my classmates there, who he rehired at Cipla too. He has always been passionate about a talent he identified, Cipla current CEO Umang was his ex-colleague, even Chief Talent Officers, he hired at Cipla (2 of them, who, however left Cipla in less than a year or two)
He also made HR being a paparazzi favorite! Media still covers him very well.
When for reasons galore, you can't find another Prabir, there is always a Mistry!
Prabir has immense following and immense detractors too and that's the sigh of a leader who is battle hardy!
I am just a chronicler....neither fan, nor a detractor...
Thank you for this interview Gopal A Iyer!
